This accessory that we thought was out of fashion is coming back to Hermès this summer

This summer, the little square of fabric that we thought was stored at the bottom of the drawer is showing up everywhere. Around the neck, in the hair or at the waist, the scarf transforms jeans and a t-shirt into a stylish outfit. It remains to find the right gestures to tie it.

From icons like Jane Birkin or Brigitte Bardot to the spring-summer 2026 fashion shows of Celine, Toteme or Hermès, all the silhouettes are there. The scarf can be used as jewelry, clothing or hair accessories. And there, seven easy ways emerge to adopt it without losing your style.

Wear the scarf around your neck, on your shoulders and on your bag

Around the neck, we forget the too strict side. By folding a square of silk into a triangle then into a strip, you obtain a necklace-scarf to tie short like a choker, or bandana style with the point in front. A simple bow is enough to add sophistication to a white shirt or tank top.

On the shoulders, it becomes a light shawl. An oversized, flowing and satiny scarf, just placed and tied very loosely in a 16th century lady’s style, adds a twist to a shirt dress or a little black dress. And then there is the handle of the bag, rolled up or decorated with a colorful Jane Birkin-style panel.

Make the scarf a piece of clothing or a sizeable accessory

Worn on top, the scarf flirts with city lingerie. With a 90×90 cm square of silk folded into a triangle, we create a backless top by tying it in the back then behind the neck, or a simple headband tied in the back. Hermès and Celine have multiplied these scarf tops on the catwalks.

Around the waist, there is a decorative belt. Slipped into the loops of jeans and tied on the side, it brings color and movement without really tightening. In the skirt version, you need a larger model that goes around the hips twice, tied at the hip like a luxurious version of the pareo.

Scarf in the hair or in a scarf: the holiday spirit

In the hair, the silk scarf replaces scrunchies and headbands. A small square of 50×50 cm is enough to surround a bun, hide the elastic of a ponytail or slip in as a third strand in a braid. Toteme showed it on a wet look ponytail, simply tied, for an effortlessly chic result.

As a scarf, the scarf protects the hair from the sun and wind. Folded into a triangle and placed on the head, it is tied under the chin for a retro look with sunglasses, or under the hair like Brigitte Bardot. With a white t-shirt and a denim skirt, the bandana immediately gives a more bohemian 1970s feel.
