Since the beginning of May, a new address has caught the eye in the center of Le Puy-en-Velay: a space entirely dedicated to the small seed that is the pride of Haute-Loire, the Lentille verte du Puy. Scenography, projections and interactive games tell the story of this star legume like never before. But what is so special about it that an entire museum is dedicated to it?

explains Jean René Mestre, president of the Friends of the Puy Green Lentil Museum, interviewed by France 3. Supported by the producers for more than twenty years, the project came to fruition after sixteen months of work and 2.6 million euros of investment, 80% financed by the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes Region and the Department.

A museum in the heart of Puy-en-Velay

The Puy Green Lentil Museum is located at 33 place du Breuil, in the city center. On a staged 220 m², the visit lasts around an hour, with groups voluntarily limited to 16 people.

Open from Tuesday to Saturday, and every day in July-August, the site is aimed at tourists as well as locals, families or schools. The full price is set at 11 euros, pending the opening of an additional educational room.

An immersive tour around the lens

The route begins with large images of Velay, projected on a panoramic screen to explain the volcanic soil where the seed grows. Then comes the history of culture, world maps and a train journey among the other lenses.
