There are perfumes that we wear because they smell good. And then there are those who give the impression of already having a history with them. Future Memories by Byredo is part of this second family. Just its name makes you want: a memory of the future, something a little vague, a little magnetic, like the end of a summer day that you would like to keep longer.
It’s not an obvious sunny scent, nor a sweet vanilla that you can tell from ten meters away. It starts greener, fresher, almost electric, before becoming warmer, softer, skinnier. Byredo lists it in its collection of eau de parfum at 170 euros for 50 ml and Who What Wear UK has already spotted it among the new striking perfumes of summer, describing it as a transitional fragrance between summer and autumn
The perfume that makes vacations last without smelling like the beach
What makes Future Memories interesting is its contrast. The opening mixes blackcurrant, aldehydes and galbanum, so something green, luminous, almost sparkling. Then the scent slides towards iris, labdanum, orange blossom and vanilla, with a more musky base that stays on the skin. We are on a more adult trail, more worked, less “I put on a summer perfume” than “people are going to ask me what I am wearing”.
Why does it really appeal?
On vacation, we like easy scents. But at the end of summer, we want something a little more memorable. Future Memories has that warm skin, light dress, late dinner, still salty hair side, but with the Byredo signature: clean, strange, minimalist, never too obvious. It is typically the perfume that we wear for ourselves, and then associate with a specific moment.
What does Future Memories by Byredo smell like?
Future Memories plays on a very chic contrast: a green and luminous start around blackcurrant, aldehydes and galbanum, then a warmer evolution with iris, orange blossom, vanilla and musks. It is a skin perfume, more sophisticated than a classic sun fragrance.
Is Future Memories more of a summer or back-to-school fragrance?
It works very well between the two. In summer, it accompanies evenings, golden skin and light outfits. At the start of the school year, its more musky and vanilla notes give a more formal scent, perfect when you want to keep a vacation memory without smelling like the beach.
How to make Future Memories last longer when it’s hot?
The good reflex is to spray it on well-hydrated skin, especially at pulse points such as the neck, wrists or inside of the elbows. In the heat, it is better to avoid putting it on an area exposed to the sun and prefer to spray it on clothes, from a distance, to prolong the trail.
