Combination skin: which facial routine to adopt in 2026?

There combination skin remains the most complex to tame. Persistent shine on the T zone, sometimes dry or uncomfortable cheeks, imperfections that appear without warning… In 2026, the needs have not changed, but the answers have clearly evolved. No more aggressive routines that strip on one side and overhydrate on the other. The priority is now to
balance,
precision of assets and intelligent textures that adapt to different areas of the face.

Good news: the facial routine for combination skin in 2026 is simpler, more targeted and more respectful of the skin barrier. We focus on hybrid treatments, capable of mattifying without drying, hydrating without making shine and preventing imperfections without overloading the skin. The objective is no longer to “correct” combination skin, but to work with it, for a clear, comfortable and lastingly balanced complexion.

How to properly clean combination skin?

Each skin type requires regular cleansing to remove impurities, makeup and traces of sebum with a suitable product so as not to attack the skin on your face. For combination skin, we rely on cleansers that will purify without drying the skin, especially the driest areas of the face which need to be hydrated. Our favorite in this area: the facial cleansing foam with cucumber and prebiotics for combination to oily skin from Pulpe de Vie. The anti-waste brand offers us a product with a light scent, both hydrating (thanks to vegetable glycerin), astringent (one of the properties of cucumber) and purifying (with Oregon pine water), which leaves the skin soft, clean and fresh after use.

On the makeup remover side, micellar waters are a good ally for this skin type, such as Garnier’s All-in-one micellar water (rated 4.1/5 stars by the Beauty Test community), suitable for combination and sensitive skin. Fragrance-free, paraben-free and with a rebalancing sebum-regulating action, it eliminates makeup and impurities in a single gesture. We also appreciate its very good quality/price ratio.

Moisturize your face well

Like any skin type, combination skin needs hydration. But you still have to find the right dose to nourish your skin without overdoing it. Fortunately, there are formulas specifically dedicated to combination skin, providing both hydration and a mattifying effect, such as Nivea’s 24-hour moisturizing and mattifying day care SPF 15.

For particularly sensitive combination skin, Avène’s Hydrance light emulsion can provide you with the necessary dose of hydration for 24 hours without damaging the skin. It is also protective with its SPF 30 and also exists in a BB cream version if you want a complexion perfector with a healthy glow.

To act deeply, face masks are a must-have in the skincare routine once a week. For combination skin, multimasking is the ideal solution. The principle? Use a mask suitable for each area of the face.

For the T zone, which is rather oily, we will therefore favor formulas based on clay (for example), known for its “blotting” and purifying effect, such as with the sebum-regulating mask Effaclar from La Roche Posay (much appreciated by the community for its effectiveness in reducing shine and reducing imperfections).

What solutions to eliminate small pimples?

Like oily skin, it is not uncommon for combination skin to also be prone to small spots. To resolve this problem, there are different products, some to be used at night with a long and deep action, others to help camouflage during the day.

To reduce imperfections, we like Payot’s famous gray paste with powerful active ingredients to eliminate spots (such as tea tree oil, glycolic acid and Meadowsweet), combined with Cica-gel Speciale 5 from the same range which helps promote cell regeneration and avoids the small scars that may appear. The gray paste, based on clay, is easily applied with a finger (previously washed of course) to the desired area and promotes the disappearance of the pimple while restoring the balance of the skin flora. Cica-gel comes as a complement to promote the disappearance of the pimple and help with healing thanks to its formula based on centella asiatica, known for its regenerating and healing action.

For a very targeted area, you can also opt for patches like the Mighty Patches from the Hero Cosmetics brand. Placed before bedtime, the patch absorbs and purifies the area in 6 to 8 hours.

How to reduce pores?

Another problem that we often find in combination skin as well as in oily skin: dilated and visible pores. To refine skin texture and reduce their visibility, formulas based on BHA, salicylic acid or even glycolic acid are preferred. Lotions, serums, masks and even creams… products to reduce pores come in several forms, but also in day and night versions, to best suit your beauty routine.

Among our favorites, we can mention the Skin Perfecting 2% BHA leave-in exfoliating lotion from Paula’s Choice (with salicylic acid and green tea), the Speedy Smooth mask from the POREfessional range from Benefit (an express treatment in 5 minutes to smooth and absorb sebum) and the treatment (an all-in-one treatment that reduces pores, smoothes skin texture and mattifies).
