You asked for trendy bangs, you leave the salon feeling confident… and in the bathroom, it’s a cold shower. Too short, too flat, swollen or greasy: impossible to recognize you. We feel like we’re stuck with this cut. The good news: it’s not final.
Often, it is not the cut that is the problem, but the way you style the bangs on a daily basis. Hairstylist Mark Townsend, the creator of Dakota Johnson’s iconic fringe, repeats it: with the right gestures, you can fix a failed fringe without cutting, in three simple movements.
Bangs that you don’t like: it’s all about styling
Failed bangs are often bangs that fall into the eyes, part in the middle or remain flat. The hair keeps the memory of the last drying, especially on the forehead. As long as we don’t change this habit, the fringe continues to live its life.
And then there are the little reflexes that make everything worse: letting the bangs dry in the open air, running your hand through them a hundred times a day, loading up on serum or cream. As Mark Townsend recalls in the magazine:
Tip #1: the round brush to change the structure of the bangs
To transform your bangs without cutting, use a round brush of medium diameter and a hairdryer on gentle heat. Mark Townsend recommends placing the brush under the outside of the bangs, sliding it up and down then directing the air towards the ends to create volume and keep a natural movement.
On bangs that are too straight, roll the strands slightly inwards, without pulling too much, to avoid the helmet effect. If your bangs are too short or parting, brush them at an angle towards the temples to create a curtain fringe effect. A few passes are enough to open up the face and make the cut softer.
Tips #2 and #3: dry products and targeted root drying
Second key action: rely on dry products such as a texturizing spray, a volumizing powder or a dry shampoo. Place a small amount on your fingers, then tap at the roots of the bangs rather than directly on the hair. You boost volume, slightly mattify, without ever weighing down or greasing.
Third step: dry the upper part of the bangs, the one that fixes the movement. On thick, curly or wavy hair, separate the bangs in two and start with the section closest to your natural part. . Then avoid letting the bangs dry alone, saturating them with wet products or cutting them hastily.
