A few streets from Figueretas beach, a small red sign resists the sirens of ultra-chic beach clubs. Behind Los Bodegueros Ibiza, Bruno Viel and Pedro Castillo claim the spirit of a real Spanish tavern, friendly, simple and open to all. An address that contrasts with the postcard image of Ibiza.
After an initial life in the old town, the restaurant reopened in June 2024 in a small premises in Figueretas, a residential and tourist district. How did this duo create a neighborhood restaurant that speaks to locals as much as passing visitors?
Los Bodegueros Ibiza, a neighborhood address that is reborn
At the turn of the century, Bruno Viel took over a former delicatessen-caterer in the heart of Ibiza and transformed it into a lively tavern, open all year round. His idea remains the same today: to propose, he explains during his interview with Nouvelles Gastronomiques.
The years go by, success is there, but in 2017 health problems keep him away from the gym. The same year arrived Pedro Castillo, a chef from the Dominican Republic, trained in a hotel school and trained at several international cuisine tables, who quickly became an indispensable support.
Bruno Viel and Pedro Castillo, two paths for the same vision
Born in Charente-Maritime, nurtured in the beach seasons in Royan, Bruno Viel first lived an intense Parisian life, between Thierry Mugler’s studio, the trendy Marais restaurant and Le Palace nightclub with David and Cathy Guetta. He discovered Ibiza in 1991, returned there every summer, then settled there permanently in 1999.
Faced with this trajectory, that of Pedro Castillo is more linear but just as committed. Graduated from a hotel school in the Dominican Republic, he moved to Spain then Ibiza in 2017. With Bruno, he claims for the new address
Paella, frita de pulpo and huevos rotos: the spirit of the tavern
On the plates, the promise translates into a seafood or Valencian paella that has become a neighborhood landmark, langostinos al ajillo, a very local Ibicencan pulp frita and, recently new, huevos rotos, a comforting marriage of crispy potatoes, fried eggs, Iberian ham or prawns.
Faced with what he calls the “Saint-Tropezation of Ibiza” and a project that would make the island “the Miami of the Mediterranean”, Bruno takes another path. He affirms that and believes that, with a clear promise:
