Why the “Sleepy Eyes” Buzze on Tiktok?
With more than millions of accumulated views, the hashtag #SleEpyyes are a hit. Beauty creators explain that this look seduces because it breaks with the usual codes: instead of hiding the signs of fatigue, they claim them. The idea is to give the illusion of a relaxed, a little melancholy look, which attracts by its sweetness and its mysterious side.
The technique is simple but requires precision. We start by applying a neutral eyeshadow on the eyelid, then stretching a discreet eyeliner dash by making it go down to the external corner. Unlike the “Siren Eyes” which go back to the temples, the “Sleepy Eyes” is distinguished by this descending movement which softens the gaze.
To accentuate the effect, many lightly make up the lower eyelash with a brown or plum eyeshadow. Finally, a mascara applied only to the center of the eyelashes – rather than at the ends – strengthens the impression of a falling eye.
Errors to avoid
Be careful not to darken the area under the eyes too much: this could give a sickly appearance. Likewise, if the complexion is left completely dull, the effect can quickly turn to “really tired” rather than the stylized look. The trick is to keep a bright skin with a light base and a subtle highlighter on the cheekbones, to balance the eye makeup.
A look that says a lot about our relationship to beauty
Like the “fatigue look”, the “Sleepy Eyes” translates a desire to show a more realistic and less filtered beauty. Dark circles or tired mine are no longer seen as faults to hide, but as an assumed and even attractive aesthetic. It is this freer, less perfect vision, which seduces as much on Tiktok.
