An air purifier probably isn’t the sexiest home purchase. Until the day we start looking at everything we can collect: dust, pollen, pet dander, mold spores and fine particles.
Shark, best known for its vacuum cleaners and home appliances, has just launched the BreatheClear. His big argument? It constantly monitors the air and adapts its power itself when it detects a change.
It monitors the air without you having to think about it
Shark BreatheClear uses multiple sensors capable of analyzing air 3,600 times per hour. When it detects more particles, movement or VOCs, the device automatically adjusts its operation. A screen also allows you to see the air quality in real time. It’s quite stupid, but above all it avoids wondering if the machine is really working for something. In the evening, the screen may also reduce its brightness when the room becomes dark. Quite appreciable if the purifier ends up in a room.
Pollen, dust and hair: this is where it gets really interesting
The system notably combines a HEPA filteractivated carbon and a DebrisDefence washable pre-filter. HEPA takes care of fine particles while activated carbon helps reduce certain odors and gases. The Shark can therefore be particularly interesting in a house with animalsfor people bothered by pollen or simply when the dust returns too quickly.
Little advice: don’t stick it behind a sofa or in a completely closed corner. A purifier needs air to circulate around it. In a bedroom, placing it in a relatively open area will make much more sense.
Shark announces coverage of up to 70 m² with one air change per hourbut the figure that interests us more on a daily basis is that of small rooms: in 14 m²it can renew the air 4.8 times per hour in maximum mode.
The filter to change every six months? Exactly, no
This is probably his best argument. Shark says its NeverChange filter can last up to six yearsunder the test conditions specified by the brand. It is much less restrictive than devices where you have to regularly repurchase the filter.
The DebrisDefence pre-filter is washable. Just remember to clean it regularly to prevent hair, dust and fur from gradually blocking the air intake. It weighs 3.77 kg and remains quite compact to be moved from one room to another if necessary. It is therefore not necessarily the device to buy if you simply want to “try” a purifier. On the other hand, for a bedroom, a living room with animals or a person particularly bothered by particles in the air, the long-lasting filter and automatic operation
become much more convincing.
Does an air purifier remove dust?
It can capture some of the dust present in the airbut it obviously does not replace vacuuming or cleaning surfaces. The Shark’s HEPA filter is designed to capture different suspended particles.
Where to place an air purifier in a bedroom?
Better to place it in an area where air can circulate freelywithout blocking its entrances and exits against a wall, a curtain or a piece of furniture. So avoid hiding it completely behind the bed just because it looks prettier that way.
