In Limoges, a discreet old garage suddenly attracts all eyes. Food courts, gourmet markets, festive third places are reaching medium-sized towns; this promises large tables, music, concerts and games. But what do we really find behind these newly opened doors?

On May 20, the Jacobins market opened in this former garage completely transformed into a gourmet market. The venue can accommodate around 300 people around eight restaurants, a bar and darts games. In the video, a voice summarizes: , we hear on France 3.

Jacobins Market: the former Limoges garage that has become a gourmet market

Located at 16, rue des Sœurs-de-la-Rivière, very close to the hyper-center of Limoges, the building offers nearly 1,200 m². For a long time a car garage, it was opened, glazed, redeveloped. The City mentions around 2 million euros invested and around forty jobs created.

At the helm, two well-known restaurateurs: Fabien Boisseau, behind , and Mathieu Bessière, from . They present the Marché des Jacobins as a third place of conviviality, festive and accessible to all, where people come to have lunch as well as improvise an afterwork.

Eight restaurants, a bar and games at the Marché des Jacobins

The hall has eight street food corners run by independents. According to the City of Limoges, we move from Asian cuisine to Creole and vegetarian recipes, from a meat bar to tapas, from the sea to pastries and revisited Limousin specialties. In the evening, the program also includes concerts, taverns and major sporting events broadcast on giant screens.

In the center, a large bar serves draft beers, wines, cocktails and sometimes a ham bar, in a very relaxed atmosphere. On the leisure side, several games are available for free access:

To get there, head for 16, rue des Sœurs-de-la-Rivière, very close to the Town Hall parking lot. According to the Petit Futé guide, the market opens from Tuesday to Saturday, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. then from 6 p.m. to 11 p.m., and on Sunday noon. Payment is made by cashless system or by credit card on each stand, for packages between $10 and $15.

This food court is part of a broader movement. In Dijon, Dij’eat, a project by Charlotte Juilly and Pierre-Alain Poissenot opposite Ikea, invested around 700,000 euros. Announced to open, indicates Pierre-Alain Poissenot at Bien Public, it brings together ten restaurants, a musical stage and a big screen, in a spirit similar to that of the Jacobins.
