In the first images of her new series for the small screen, we almost want to look twice to be sure that it is really Nicole Kidman. Accustomed to glamorous cuts and smoky makeup, the actress suddenly appears as a very sober lab woman, far from the sophisticated silhouettes that marked her previous roles.
Nicole Kidman in Scarpetta: a forensic doctor far from glamor
For those who have never opened a novel in the saga, Kay Scarpetta is a forensic doctor who leads investigations through no less than 28 books by Patricia Cornwell. This iconic heroine will now come to life on screen in a series of 8 episodes, expected on March 11, 2026 on Prime Video, with Nicole Kidman in the title role. Alongside him, Jamie Lee Curtis will play Scarpetta’s sister, in a criminal thriller where the action is divided between the forensic laboratory and the darkest cases.
To fit this new character, the actress saw herself transformed into a real laboratory woman. White blouse, concentrated look, thin-framed glasses on her nose in the first images revealed, she deliberately moves away from sequins. Her hair is pulled back and pinned into a low, slightly fuzzy bun placed at the back of her head, with a few strands escaping around her face to soften the look. A look designed to make Kay Scarpetta credible in her daily life as a scientist, while maintaining a certain softness on screen.
Scientist bun and no-make-up: Nicole Kidman’s new face
Hair-wise, this lab bun ticks all the “practical but neat” style boxes. Tied at the bottom of the neck, Nicole Kidman’s hair is well maintained so as not to bother a woman who has to constantly handle files or equipment, while maintaining a lively side thanks to the small strands left free here and there. We are far from the big glamorous curls or the jeweled beauty that she displayed in her previous roles: this time, the actress offers herself a discreet low updo which reflects the rigor of her profession as a forensic doctor, without freezing her.
The makeup follows exactly the same minimalist logic. To portray a heroine absorbed in her investigations, the star appears with almost imperceptible no-make-up makeup: visibly light complexion, simply highlighted look as if she had only applied a swipe of mascara before heading to the laboratory, neutral lips that blend with the skin tone. This choice reinforces the idea of a woman who relies first on her expertise, and whose beauty can be read in the transparency of the skin rather than in the accumulation of products. A bias that changes the pronounced makeup of her more glamorous roles and which, already, makes you want to see how Kay Scarpetta will be dressed once the blouse comes off.
