Swollen stomach: 3 ultra-effective grandmother’s recipes to deflate quickly

Having a bloated stomach, that feeling of heaviness after a meal, or even for no apparent reason, is both unpleasant and frustrating. Whether it’s related to stress, slow digestion or overeating, bloating is a common ailment. Good news: there are natural, ultra-simple remedies that really make a difference.

Before rushing towards ready-made herbal teas or draining supplements, why not turn to grandmother’s recipes? These remedies passed down from generation to generation are often the most effective. Based on plants, ingredients that we all have in our kitchen, or simple gestures, they provide relief gently and quickly. We share with you our 3 favorite recipes, tested and validated.

1. Magic herbal tea: fennel, cumin, anise

It is the digestive remedy par excellence. Fennel, cumin and anise are known for their carminative properties: in other words, they help expel intestinal gas and soothe digestive spasms. Together, they form a winning trio against bloating.

Boil 250ml of water, then add a teaspoon of each seed. Leave to infuse for ten minutes covered. Drink this hot herbal tea after a hearty meal or as soon as you feel your stomach swelling. In addition to being good for the stomach, it has a very pleasant sweet and aniseed taste.

2. The lemon + bicarbonate combo on an empty stomach

Another ultra-effective tip: drink a mixture of lukewarm water, lemon juice and a pinch of baking soda. This combo acts as a natural antacid. Lemon stimulates the liver, bicarbonate neutralizes gastric acidity, and lukewarm water facilitates transit.

Be careful not to overdo it: once a day is enough, preferably in the morning on an empty stomach or after an excess. This mixture is not recommended for people suffering from kidney problems or following gastric treatment. But for others, it is a simple and radical remedy to find a flat stomach.

3. The flat stomach poultice: clay + peppermint

When bloating becomes really uncomfortable, a clay poultice is a natural, yet very effective solution. Green clay absorbs gases and detoxifies, while peppermint, as an infusion, helps relax the abdominal muscles.

Mix two tablespoons of powdered clay with just enough mint tea to make a paste. Spread it on a thin cloth, apply on the stomach for 20 minutes, and rest. It’s a slightly slower solution, but ideal at the end of the day to relax and deflate.
