This “revenge” eyeliner inspired by a cult princess dress is panicking TikTok

On TikTok as on Instagram, a new eyeliner line is causing panic in screenshots: revenge eyeliner. Born in season 3 of the series, this hypnotic double plot promises a surer look than ever. We are already comparing it to a certain princess dress that has gone down in history.

For years, series heroines have been launching viral haircuts and makeup, from Rachel Green in to Ursula Corberó in . With Maddy Perez, pushes the idea further: her liner becomes a symbol of assumed revenge, revenge dress style applied to the look.

Revenge eyeliner and revenge dress, the principle

In season 3, Maddy Perez, played by Alexa Demie, wears this liner in episode 2, when Cassie announces her marriage. On her eyes, two arcs respond to each other: an upper line elongated towards the temple and a lower line perfectly straight at the level of the eyelashes. The result is a stretched, almost sharp eye that captures the entire screen.

The term revenge eyeliner echoes the revenge dress, this black dress worn by Princess Diana in 1994 after Charles’ public admission of infidelity. Then revenge makeup popularized on TikTok: more intense makeup, used as a ritual to show that we are getting back up and moving forward.

Technically, the upper line is posed like a classic cat eye: neither too thin nor too thick, following the curve of the eyelid before rising towards the tip. The bottom line starts in the middle of the eye and goes straight to the outer corner, very close to the eyelashes. Without smoky makeup around, the contrast remains ultra graphic.

This signature design, imagined for the series by makeup artist Donni Davy, requires fine-tipped, felt-tip or liquid eyeliner. We work on a very dry eyelid, we first trace the top line, we let it dry, then we slowly add the bottom one. A cotton swab soaked in makeup remover refines the edges if necessary.

For an office version, we leave the line clear but we associate it with a light complexion, a discreet blush and a nude mouth. The revenge eyeliner then becomes a simple sophisticated cat eye, wise enough for a meeting but enough to feel more assertive in front of others.

In the evening or after a breakup, you can accentuate the revenge effect with a little black dress, a deep red and a slightly thicker line. On drooping eyelids, shorten the bottom line and raise the top tip further. And then there’s nothing stopping you from daring to create a colorful version.
