Well-being and spa at home: filter errors that ruin your skin

Clean your filter too rarely or replace your filter incorrectly

The filter works tirelessly. It retains hair, oils, leftover cream, everything that water can’t clean. Little by little, it is saturated. The water then becomes cloudy, a little viscous sometimes, and the spa loses its clarity.

Many people settle for a quick rinse, but that’s far from enough. The best is to let it soak for a while in lukewarm water with a little cleaning product. Then, we rinse it quietly and let it dry in the open air, without rushing. If it remains damp, an unpleasant odor quickly appears, a sign that germs have taken hold there. Five extra minutes can really make a difference: spa water stays clear and healthy.

In general, we change the cartridge every three or four months, depending on use. You can easily find them at specialized brands like Filters2spa for example. In specialized stores, you can find well-referenced filters, with sizes and compatibility displayed. This avoids unpleasant surprises. Some recent models are finer: they retain the small particles which tarnish the water and limit the use of chemicals.

Forgetting about pH balance and water quality

Many people think that a good filter is enough. Actually, no: water itself has its character. Too acidic, it stings and damages the skin. Too hard, it deposits a white film and clogs the filter. The ideal balance is around 7.2 to 7.6. This can easily be checked using test strips.

On the disinfectant side, the principle is the same: not enough, and bacteria sets in, whereas if it is too much, it risks damaging the skin. It is therefore better to adjust little by little than to pour half a bottle at once. Every two or three months, it is advisable to carry out routine maintenance: complete draining, flushing of the circuit, clean filter. We start again on light water, without deposit. The spa lasts longer, and the skin regains that soft touch that we expect from a truly relaxing bath.

Frequently asked questions about which spa filter to choose

How do you know when it needs to be changed?

If the cartridge remains dark, smells bad or remains rigid after washing, it should be replaced.

What material is worth it?

The pleated synthetic fiber filters hold up well over time and can be cleaned without deforming.

Can we use a universal model?

Sometimes yes, sometimes no. Dimensions and threads vary from one brand to another; Better to compare before buying.

Is the dishwasher possible?

No. The heat twists the fiber and makes it porous. A good hand rinse is enough.

What is the average lifespan?

Between three and six months depending on the frequency of bathing. Regular rinsing almost doubles its duration.
